Preserving national heritage: restoring and digitizing Romania's cultural archives

The website features a simple, minimalist design utilizing Bootstrap, Animate.css, Magnific-Popup, jQuery and Popper. This design choice emphasizes text and photos, ensuring a clean and focused user experience.

This project aims to restore old national archives, specifically targeting Romania's National Library collections. The goal is to raise awareness about the importance of preserving written cultural heritage and to encourage people to get involved or volunteer in this significant effort.

Romania's National Library, as the keeper of the national documentary memory, holds a vast and diverse collection of documents. However, many collections have suffered due to inadequate infrastructure and resources over the years. Since February 2022, a concerted effort has been underway to reintegrate these disorganized collections, with over 11 tons cleaned so far. This initiative, led by esteemed professionals and supported by partners like "Free Mioriţa Association" and "FAN Courier", has achieved significant progress despite limited resources.

Conservation efforts include dusting and shelving, sorting based on origin and condition, maintaining detailed records, bibliographic processing, organizing by topography and type, digitizing, and making the collections accessible through online catalogs, virtual exhibits, and other digital platforms. Through these activities, the project not only preserves the heritage but also makes it widely accessible, fostering a deeper appreciation and engagement with the national history.
